Last night I had the honor to play for the Relay for Life closing ceremonies in Second Life. I played on the stage at the RFL Treatment sim. The closing ceremonies are taking place this entire weekend, so you still have time to participate or see the events as of the time this is posted. There is a LiveStream broadcast taking place, courtesy of Treet.tv at the Relay for Life web site, as well.
I would like to share that performance with you, but I ask that you do one thing. Go HERE to donate to the American Cancer Society page dedicated to Relay for Life in Second Life. Your money goes directly to the American Cancer Society to help fund initiatives to find a cure for Cancer.
Here's an archive file of my performance:
Don't forget. Go to the Relay for Life in Second Life page to make your donation. Please do it now.
I just realized that I'll be playing a show in-world on my five-year rez-day. Won't you join me? It is hard to believe that I will have been visiting the virtual world of Second Life since April 26, 2006. This is truly inaccurate, though. I had a profile before that, but for the life of me can't remember the avatar name. Rich Desoto, however, was rezzed on 04/26/06.
I'll be playing at 5pm SL time at Hotel Chelsea in Second Life (8pm ET) on 26 April 2011. You can visit in-world or you can listen to the audio stream by visiting richpalmer.com/a/9392 from your favorite streaming audio player (it even works on iPhones/iPod Touch).
For a complete list of shows -- and some of my online recordings and videos -- please visit my ReverbNation profile.
I caught a performance of my friend, Chris Harlow (DimiVan Ludwig), from the web site TheStage.tv. This site is a place for musicians around the globe to get online and perform in an open mic environment. If people like your performance they will "cheer" for you -- and they can even tip you with Paypal. Performers can also earn extra time. As the audience watches, they can grant the performer more time in :10 second increments.
I decided to give it a try this morning. My first performance was "I'd Drive All Night." Here's my second time on the stage:
You can also find my videos from these performances at my YouTube page: richpalmerUSA
First, I want to say that I had a great time playing at Hotel Chelsea last night. If you have not had the opportunity to visit this club, add it to your rounds. The audience was great (we had a large number of people in the room) and the atmosphere is fantastic.
Second, I'll be keeping my calendar updated more frequently now. I'm back to playing shows as often as I can. Don't expect two or more shows a week. In most cases, I will only be able to do a show on random weekends. There are a few rare occasions when you can find me playing a weeknight show. These are a challenge due to my work and commute schedule.
I've been using Google Calendar to update my shows, but may start using ReverbNation's postings for shows. I like the interface and it is much easier to share across the interwebs. For now, you can find both the Google version and the ReverbNation widget on my Performance Calendar page. (Look for it in the sidebar of this site.)
Be sure to note the time zone on the calendars. These sometimes show performance times in MY time zone (U.S. Eastern). If so, simply deduct three hours for Second Life time.
This is presented warts and all. There is an apparent skip in the second song. I guess that's what makes it live.

Hello friends.
This is a simple note and blog post to let you know that the domain and blog for Rich Desoto will soon be ending. No Desoto hasn't passed on. He's simply out of the public eye for a time.
However, for all things Rich Desoto, one need only to look at RichPalmer.com. I'll be posting my show calendar there when I return to regular performances. I will also update my blog with all things virtual life and real life as they pertain to my music.
Thanks for being along for the ride; we're just going to take a different highway now.
In Memoriam - UFS/Uncle Funky Shoes/Randy Walters http://www.carlislefh.com We regret to announce that UFS Hyde aka Uncle Funky Shoes aka "David" Randy Walters, RL and SL Live Musician, passed away Saturday, February 27. A friend and musician, Michelle Pillers (Micki Underwood in Second Life), has recently been diagnosed with lymphoma of the brain. This is a fairly early catch and the survival prognosis is about 70%. However, her treatments may take from six months to year.
It has been discovered that she doesn't have health insurance to cover this challenge. Because it will be considered a preexisting condition she will find it very difficult to get coverage for her medical expenses.
Today I performed a benefit show in Second Life to help raise funds for Michelle. Many artists performed throughout the day and people are being very generous. We still need to do all we can. So... I am offering a recording of today's show (warts and all) for you to download. You are certainly welcome to the recording for free, but I think Michelle and everyone else would appreciate it if you would donate a bit to the cause.
The PayPal link will allow you to donate online -- you can use any major credit card (Visa, MC, AEx or Discover) or your PayPal account to do so. Please contribute. Every little bit helps. Your donation will be send directly to Michelle.
UPDATE: This offer is now closed.
